Overview

CAD/CAM is the technology that brings computers into the design and manufacture of dental restorations. It makes it possible to get faultless work in a single appointment, without repeated visits to the dentist.

It is used to design and produce the porcelain restorations of prosthetic dentistry — crowns and bridges, veneers, inlays and onlays — with a far better fit and a better aesthetic result.

How the process works

The system has two stages. In the first, images taken in your mouth with an optical camera are recorded directly by the unit, and dedicated design software (CAD) is used to design the restoration that suits you best. In the second, the finished design is milled from ceramic blocks by a dedicated machine under manufacturing software (CAM).

Because all of this is automated and laboratory-borne errors are taken out of the equation, the margin for error falls to zero. Restorations are produced in around two hours and fitted without difficulty.
